I’m an independent journalist and a social media manager based in Asia. My writing largely focuses on travel, food and culture. My work appears in NYT, Bon Appétit, BBC, CNN, The Verge, Atlas Obscura, American Express, Fodor’s, The New Zealand Herald, Popular Science, Singapore Airlines, Food52 and other digital and print publications.

I also proofread Sri Lanka guides for ProQuest. I’ve appeared on COVID-19 in South Asia Webinar hosted by Aliah University, Kolkata and Farm to Thali to discuss Sri Lankan food. I was featured on The Washington Post, Contiki, Hostelworld, and Matador Network.

Some highlights: My cover-page print feature for Silk Air and Singapore Air on Sri Lanka’s first local female-run surf club won the Award of Excellence for writing and design at the Communicator Awards, 2020 in New York. In 2020, Sri Lanka High Commission in Singapore recognized my print story for World Travel Magazine on how kitesurfing put a small Sri Lankan coastal village on the map.

I studied English Literature, Sociology and Communications at Aquinas University in Colombo. My thesis focused on travel’s impact on rural communities. From 2016, I’ve managed social media for various fashion, lifestyle and travel brands. Before my writing and creative career took over, I finished high school in 2014 and trained as a pharmacist. I’m always on the move, and my itchy feet take me to far-flung mountains. My dream is to open a library-café in a hill village so I can share the joy of books with beautiful souls.

Where I am right now: Colombo, Sri Lanka

Where I’ll be heading next: Chiang Mai, Thailand (Dec, 2022), Bangkok, Thailand (Jan-Feb, 2023), Laos (March, 2023)

On-going research: Apart from my writing and social media work, I’m currently part of a FPAR (feminist participatory action research) conducted by APWLD - Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development. My research focuses on labour rights, lack of trade unions and female leadership in Sri Lanka’s Free Trade Zones.
